Team GB's Shanaze Reade has pointed to her poor start as the main reason that she didn't medal in the women's BMX final.
Reade, who was considered a genuine medal hope, finished sixth as Mariana Pajon claimed victory to win Colombia's second ever summer Olympic gold medal.
"I just didn't get the start I needed to win the race and that was it," she said.
"Today's schedule has been pretty hard. I just tried to stay focused and do my best and today it just wasn't good enough.
"At the moment, I'm pretty emotionless. I'm sure it'll sink in. I can't thank all these people enough for supporting me and I don't really know what to say."
Great Britain's Liam Phillips also failed to medal after falling in the men's final, which was won by defending champion Maris Strombergs of Latvia.
