The Omega Pharma-Quick Step team doctor has confirmed that Mark Cavendish did not break his collarbone during the opening stage of the Tour de France.

It was reported following Saturday's race that Cavendish had suffered a serious injury when he crashed with 200m left to cycle.

According to BBC Sport, "Mark Cavendish's team doctor says he has NOT suffered a broken collarbone following today's Stage 1 crash".

However, the extent of the 29-year-old's injury remains unclear while he undergoes tests in hospital.

The Tour continues on Sunday with a 201km race from York to Sheffield.
