Gary Anderson has booked his place in the PDC World Championship quarter-finals with a 4-3 victory over Rob Cross.

Based on form earlier in the tournament, Cross was the clear favourite ahead of the battle of the former world champions, but Anderson's greater consistency eventually paid off.

The Scot averaged between 95 and 100 in the opening four sets, enough to establish a deserved 3-1 lead, but a mixture of missed doubles and Cross improving considerably took the game into a decider.

While both players averaged in excess of 103 during the seventh set, Anderson ultimately came through on his fifth match dart, earning a quarter-final clash with Luke Humphries who also came through an absorbing encounter which went the distance.

Humphries, somewhat harshly, trailed 3-1 to an impressive Chris Dobey, but the 19th seed held his nerve in a match which featured 25 180s.

James Wade will take on Mervyn King in the last eight, Wade easing past Martijn Kleermaker by a 4-0 scoreline and Mervyn King battling back to overcome Raymond Smith in a deciding set.

Callan Rydz will square off against Peter Wright after producing yet another impressive display, winning 12 of the last 13 legs to see off the challenge of Alan Soutar by a 4-1 scoreline.

In the final match of the last 16, Wright comfortably defeated Ryan Searle, hitting seven 180s and averaging 99.25 in a 4-1 success.
