Luke Humphries has catapulted himself up to second in the Premier League standings with victory on Week Six in Brighton.

The world champion began the night down in sixth spot, a consequence of just one runner-up finish in the opening five weeks, but he was back to his majestic best on Thursday.

Humphries commenced his efforts on the South Coast with a 6-2 victory over Gerwyn Price, averaging 105.5, before he came through a quite outrageous match with Rob Cross with a 113.71 average.

Cross posted 108 in a 6-3 defeat, highlighting how well the world number one was performing, and a 101.04 average was enough for Humphries to beat Michael Smith 6-3 in the final.

With Michael van Gerwen losing the opening match of the night to Cross by a 6-2 scoreline, Humphries now sits just three points adrift of the Dutchman who leads the way.

Semi-final appearances for Cross and Luke Littler mean that they sit in a share of third position, with Smith only fifth despite reaching the final.

Smith came through a last-leg decider with Peter Wright in his last-eight contest before impressively disposing of Littler 6-3 after the 17-year-old had defeated Nathan Aspinall by the same scoreline. body check tags ::
