Phil Taylor has qualified for the second round of the Grand Slam of Darts with a 5-3 win over Mervyn King.
Taylor could have exited the competition with a defeat, but a strong finish has helped him see off King to set up a last-16 match with Wes Newton, who defeated Barrie Bates 5-1.
Newton finished runner-up of Group F after Paul Nicholson came from behind to beat Magnus Caris 5-4, and he will now play Steve Beaton, who recorded a 5 2 victory over James Hubbard.
Martin Phillips beat Co Stompe 5-2 to set up a second round showdown with fellow Welsh left-hander Mark Webster, who saw off Jan Dekker 5-3.
John Part defeated Aaron Monk 5-3, and he will now meet Adrian Lewis after the world champion beat Vincent van der Voort 5-2.
