Peter Wright has seen off a valiant performance from Fallon Sherrock to reach the Grand Slam of Darts semi-finals, eventually prevailing by a 16-13 scoreline.
In a high-quality contest which featured 22 180s and both players averaging just short of 99, Wright withstood a late rally to book his place in the last four.
Sherrock held a 3-2 lead at the first interval as both players averaged well over 100, but Wright had gained a foothold in the contest by the next break.
Wright put himself 14-10 ahead before Sherrock reeled off three legs on the spin, suggesting that she could pull off one of the most memorable wins in PDC history.
However, the 2020 world champion held his nerve to set up a showdown with Michael Smith, who beat Michael van Gerwen by the same scoreline.
Smith, like Wright, reeled off 14 180s and led 5-0 and 15-10 at different stages of the contest, but he ultimately settled for a 16-13 triumph over the three-time winner of the event. body check tags ::
