World number three Adrian Lewis has got his World Matchplay campaign off to a blistering start after he whitewashed Andrew Gilding at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool.
Lewis has struggled to replicate the form that saw him win the UK Open earlier this year, but the two-time world champion was back to his best as he stormed to a quick victory over the debutant.
The Stoke-on-Trent thrower took out finishes of 87 and 97 to move three away from the win before he completed a scintillating display on double nine to post an average of 110.
Lewis will now play Mervyn King in the second round after the world number 14 dominated his clash with Kim Huybrechts before running out a 10-4 victor.
2014 Lakeside champion Stephen Bunting marked his first appearance in Blackpool with a 10-6 triumph over last year's PDC World Championship runner-up Peter Wright.
The Liverpudlian will come up against Gary Anderson in the last 16 after the Scot edged out Jamie Caven by a 10-8 scoreline.
