Michael van Gerwen thumps Terry Jenkins to move into the quarter-finals of the World Championships, but James Wade is a second-round casualty.

James Wade has bowed out of the PDC World Championships after going down 4-1 to Stephen Bunting at Alexandra Palace tonight.

Wade, a three-time semi-finalist in the competition, lost the first set but pegged last year's BDO champion back to level up the match.

Bunting responded by picking up the third set, before showing his pedigree to decide the fourth with a 144 checkout to move 3-1 ahead en route to eliminating the world number six in round two.

Meanwhile, defending champion Michael van Gerwen remains on course for back-to-back world titles after beating Terry Jenkins 4-1 to move into the quarter-finals.

The Dutchman barely broke sweat to snatch the first set, but Jenkins levelled up after edging a five-leg second set.

There was little to separate the pair once again in the third set, as Jenkins took out 40 to level up at two legs apiece, but Van Gerwen raced through the decider to move 2-1 ahead.

Jenkins looked good to level up the match once again after taking a two-leg lead.

However, 'Mighty Mike' reminded the Ally Pally crowd why he is world number one by winning three successive legs to take a 3-1 lead, before ultimately closing out the match.

Van Gerwen will now gear up for a clash with Robert Thornton, who thumped Dave Chisnall's conqueror Benito van de Pas 4-0 to cruise into the last eight.
