Two relegation rivals will face off when Everton Women welcome Leicester City Women to Walton Hall Park on Sunday.

The visitors occupy 11th place in the Women's Super League table, while the Toffees are one point better off in 10th position.

Match preview

Preview: Everton vs. Leicester - prediction, team news, lineups

Everton have taken just one point from their opening two league games of 2025, playing out a 1-1 draw with Aston Villa before falling to a 2-0 defeat in last Sunday's away meeting with West Ham United.

However, Brian Sorensen's side quickly put that loss behind them to get the better of Tottenham Hotspur in their midweek Women's FA Cup tie.

Winter addition Kelly Gago opened the scoring in the opening stages of the second period, before Heather Payne added a second in stoppage time to wrap up a 2-0 home win, setting up a difficult fifth-round tie against Chelsea.

The Toffees will now turn their focus back to league action, with the hosts looking to make it four WSL home games without defeat after winning two and drawing one of their previous three top-flight home games.

Having failed to win their last five head-to-head meetings, Everton are hoping to get the better of Leicester for the first time since September 2022.

Leicester moved four points clear of the relegation spot with a narrow 2-1 home victory over Liverpool last weekend.

Janice Cayman cancelled out Olivia Smith's opener, before Missy Goodwin scored what proved to be the game's final goal to guide Leicester to their first WSL win since October.

With both of their WSL victories taking place on home turf, the Foxes will head into Sunday's fixture with aspirations of claiming their first away league win of the season.

In fact, the Foxes have failed to win any of their last 11 WSL away games since they recorded a 1-0 victory in their most recent away meeting with Everton in January 2024.

Leicester have won each of their previous four competitive meetings with the Toffees, including a 1-0 win in October's home fixture.

Team News

Everton are expected to be without Aurora Galli, Inma Gabbaro and Karen Holmgaard, while it remains to be seen whether Elise Stenevik will prove her fitness in time for Sunday's contest.

Defender Megan Finnigan is set to miss the rest of the season after sustaining an anterior cruciate ligament injury in midweek.

After scoring her first Everton goal midweek cup tie, Gago will now look to open her WSL account when she features against the Foxes.

As for the visitors, they are expected to be without Jutta Rantala, Noemie Mouchon, Lena Petermann and Deanne Rose.

The Foxes signed Hlin Eiriksdottir from Swedish side Kristianstads DFF on transfer deadline day, but it remains to be seen whether she will get league and international clearance in time for Sunday's fixture.

Leicester boss Amandine Miquel could be tempted to stick with the lineup that started last Sunday's narrow win over Liverpool.

Everton Women possible starting lineup:
Brosnan; H. Payne, Hope, Fernandez, S. Holmgaard; Watson, Ladd, Hayashi, Olesen; T. Payne, Gago

Leicester City Women possible starting lineup:
Leitzig; Bott, Howard, Thibaud, Ale; Mace, Tierney; O'Brien, Momiki, Goodwin; Cayman

We say: Everton Women 2-1 Leicester City Women

Everton have won two of their last three home league games, and with that in mind, we think that they will make full use of home advantage to get the better of a Leicester side that have lost each of their previous four away league games.
