England's Tom Daley reiterates that he is in "best shape" of his life after an up-and-down performance in the Commonwealth Games 10m platform preliminary round.

English diver Tom Daley has reiterated that he is in the best shape of his life after topping the scoreboard in the Commonwealth Games 10m platform preliminaries.

Daley said that he was in good shape before the start of the Games and today produced some outstanding diving.

The 20-year-old already knew that he would be in tonight's 10m platform final when competing in the preliminaries as only 11 divers were present and usually 12 go through.

It wasn't all plain sailing for Daley, though, and he again scored poorly on the 'twister' - a dive that he has admitted is "terrifying" and said that he might remove from his routine once the season is over.

Even so, he still produced two dives which scored more than 100 and also gave the Edinburgh crowd the first 10s of the Games' diving.

"I know that I'm in the best shape that I've ever been in. In the World Cup and here, so I know I can do those dives to 100 points and quite comfortably and be ready to dive," he told reporters at the Royal Commonwealth Pool.

"It's always hard to dive in a prelim when you know that you've already made the final and no matter what you do, even if you were to get a failed dive, even if you were to get 10s, you were already in the final.

"So for me it's about making sure that I was doing as consistent as I could. It took me a while to warm up but when I did, it felt good. It's going to be a tough battle between me and Matt [Mitcham] tonight."

Daley is the reigning Commonwealth champion at 10m and will go for gold again at around 7.30pm.
