Matthew Dixon reveals that he asked the one member of the English diving squad younger than him, Victoria Vincent, about the experience of diving at the Commonwealths.

Fourteen-year-old diver Matthew Dixon has revealed that he spoke to Victoria Vincent, his even younger England teammate, before he made his bow at the Commonwealth Games today.

Dixon competed in the preliminary round for the men's 10m platform at the Royal Commonwealth Pool in Edinburgh and put up the 10th-best score with 365.65 from his six dives.

Speaking to reporters afterwards, Dixon said that he had asked 13-year-old Vincent, who finished 10th in Thursday's women's 10m platform, about the experience.

"Yeah, she said it was really fun, a really good experience, so I just thought it would be good," he said.

"I was a little nervous. But I came into it with no experience of any senior comps, but I took it and done a good comp."

When asked by Sports Mole if he would soon be attempting to increase his difficulty level over the next couple of years, Dixon replied: "Yeah, of course I try to develop my degree of difficulty because I'm only young and I only do the easier dives compared to some of the others."

Dixon, along with reigning champion and teammate Tom Daley, will compete in the final at around 7.30pm this evening.
