England's gold medal-winning diver Alicia Blagg says that it was the "best moment" of her life when she realised what she had achieved this evening.

Team England diver Alicia Blagg has described winning gold in the Commonwealth Games synchronised 3m springboard as the "best moment" of her life.

Blagg and partner Rebecca Gallantree were completely shell-shocked when they emerged from the water to see that they had won the gold with the last dive of the night.

In dramatic fashion, the duo nailed their hardest dive - a forward three-and-a-half somersault - to win the event by 4.59 points from favourites Canada and Australia.

The pair just missed out on a medal in the same event at the last Games in Delhi, but pulled off the shock of the diving's first day at the Royal Commonwealth Pool in Edinburgh.

"That last dive it was either a medal or no medal for me," Blagg, 17, told reporters moments after collecting her gold medal. "We had absolutely no idea, we thought we were in like fourth or fifth.

"To do that dive and then to see the scoreboard say first, it was the best moment of my life. That's why I overreacted a bit too much!"

Gallantree said that they had been working extra hard on the final dive, which had the hardest difficulty rating of their programme.

"We knew that we could do a good [dive]," said Gallantree, who is 12 years older than her partner. "We've been struggling with it a little bit in training, the timing's been a little bit off, but we've worked really really hard on it over the last couple of days.

"To be honest I'm not sure I thought we'd manage to get to this point, but we did. I'm just so happy."

The duo's success made it double delight for England tonight after Jack Laugher's convincing victory in the men's 1m springboard. Earlier in the day, Tonia Couch and Sarah Barrow collected silver in synchronised 10m platform.
