EastEnders' executive producer Chris Clenshaw has suggested that more former characters could return to the Square to mark the soap's 40th anniversary next year.
Last summer Clenshaw made the shock decision to bring back Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins) - former wife of Ian (Adam Woodyatt) - some 25 years after she supposedly died off screen in prison.
Speaking to press this week, the exec hinted that Cindy could soon be joined by more familiar faces as the show approaches its milestone birthday in February 2025.
"As we head towards our 40th year, it is the history of the show. I think the nostalgic element means a lot," he said at the TRIC Awards last week.
Discussing the possibility of characters coming back, he continued: "It's not just because of the lovely reaction, it all depends on the story and where the characters are. It has to come from character, it has to come from story."
"Christmas is well underway,"he added. "In the story office there is a board and it all connects. I compare it to a tapestry board, everything has to fit together.
"We've got the new Mitchells coming in that will stir some trouble up. And as we head through into the autumn and the end of the year, we've got quite a few treats coming up."
