Sherlock actress Amanda Abbington reportedly holds talks about appearing on this year's Strictly Come Dancing.

Amanda Abbington is reportedly in talks about appearing on this year's edition of Strictly Come Dancing.

The Sherlock actress - ex-wife of Martin Freeman - has made no secret of her desire to appear on the BBC ballroom show in the past, joking in a media interview that she was submitting an "official application".

According to The Sun, Abbington is now ready to take on the challenge after a testing period which saw her boyfriend, escapologist Jonathan Goodwin, paralysed during an accident filming America's Got Talent: Extreme.

"Amanda has had a rough ride over the past seven years and just recently has she come out the other side," a source told the newspaper.

"The accident only brought Amanda and Jonathan closer together and she's keen to start a whole new chapter in her life.

"Part of that is taking part in Strictly because it's a long-held ambition of hers and one she is on track to fulfil before her milestone 50th birthday next year."

The new series of Strictly is due to begin on BBC One in September.
