The then-Argentine teenager was introduced for his debut by Frank Rijkaard for a La Liga fixture against Espanyol.
Messi took a further eight months to score his first goal for Barcelona, netting from an assist from Ronaldinho in a league encounter versus Albacete.
Incredibly, he ended his Barcelona career with 672 goals from 778 appearances in all competitions before starting his two-year spell with Paris Saint-Germain.
Messi has since moved onto Inter Miami, where he has defied a spell out through injury to still score 30 goals from his 35 outings.
Two decades on from his first-ever appearance in the first team of Barcelona, Messi has made a total of 920 appearances during his career, scoring 745 goals over his time with a number of various clubs.
