GB News host Stephen Dixon is reportedly in the frame to replace Dan Walker on BBC Breakfast.
Walker left the role after six years in April in order to become the new face of Channel 5's news output and the BBC is still in the hunt for his successor.
Jon Kay has been temporarily filling in alongside Sally Nugent and is said to be the frontrunner to get the job permanently, but the Daily Star says that Dixon - host of GB News' weekend breakfast show - is also being considered.
"Jon Kay is very popular in the newsroom, but the process to replace Dan is still ongoing with a few weeks left apparently," a source told the newspaper.
"They definitely haven't done the interviews yet. There has been a huge number of applicants obviously because it was advertised externally."
Other names linked with the role include Good Morning Britain's Sean Fletcher and Gamal Fahnbulleh of ITV Granada.
