Stevenage rebuff Preston's advances to attempt to speak to manager Graham Westley over the club's vacant coaching role.

Stevenage have confirmed that Preston North End have approached the club in order to speak to manager Graham Westley.

The League One side have turned down Preston's advance to speak to their boss but have revealed that they may be resigned to losing Westley if the manager decides to speak to the club.

A statement on the club's official website read: "Stevenage FC confirm that Preston North End FC have asked for permission to speak to Graham Westley with the view to employing him as their new Manager.

"The club have informed Preston that their approach is unwelcome at this crucial stage of the season. However, as always in these situations, the Manager's desire will influence the outcome."

Preston have been without a permanent manager since sacking Phil Brown last month.
