Accies announced McMillan's arrival on the same day Brian Rice was appointed their new head coach.

Hamilton made the first Ladbrokes Premiership signing of transfer deadline day as well as appointing Brian Rice as their new head coach.

Rice's move from St Mirren assistant to the top job at Accies was confirmed after the Lanarkshire club announced the signing of 30-year-old St Johnstone striker David McMillan on loan.

The club's new director of football, Allan McGonigal, said: "We're delighted to add another striker to the squad – it's an area we've been looking to strengthen.

"David arrives with a proven goalscoring pedigree and we're hoping he can continue that here at Hamilton Accies."

St Johnstone are also looking to offload Stefan Scougall and could add to their squad.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is hoping to bring in a new signing on top of the imminent transfer of Ukrainian winger Maryan Shved from Karpaty Lviv. The 21-year-old will be loaned back to his current club for the rest of the season.

Rodgers has been pursuing options at right-back with Mikael Lustig's contract up at the end of the season.

Lewis Morgan is expected to join Sunderland on loan but an ankle injury for Filip Benkovic – which rules him out for at least a month – has scuppered a potential loan move for Jack Hendry.

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard does not expect any activity other than the completion of Jordan Rossiter's loan move to Bury.

Aberdeen have reportedly knocked back a major bid from Stoke for defender Scott McKenna and manager Derek McInnes is looking to add one player to his squad.

Steve Clarke is looking to add one more player to his Kilmarnock squad after signing Alex Bruce from Wigan on Wednesday.

Clarke said on Thursday morning: "Working on one. Not a big name but I think a big talent and one for the future. There might be one or two on the way out on loan."

Craig Levein does not expect any changes to his Hearts squad – because he is heading to a gig in Glasgow.

Asked if there would be any new arrivals checking into Tynecastle, the Jambos boss said: "No, I'm going to watch Snow Patrol tonight, my phone will be off. Brilliant, eh?

"I don't see (anyone going out). It will be hard to get hold of me."

St Mirren manager Oran Kearney is hoping to make at least one new signing but is happy to keep looking after the transfer window shuts.

Kearney said: "We're always hunting. I still would be hopeful of doing a little bit of business.

"And again, there's a lot of players today who will probably relieve themselves of contracts and things tick on for the next 10 days to two weeks. So I don't think we are totally time-bound today. But yes we have a couple of bits and pieces we would like to do.

"We would like at least one, possibly two would be good business for us."
