AC Milan chief executive Adriano Galliani has admitted that the club are interested in signing Catania striker Maxi Lopez.
The Italian champions are reportedly keen to add a forward to their squad after it was revealed last week that Antonio Cassano required heart surgery.
"Lopez is an excellent player. He would fit in nicely at Milan," Galliani told reporters.
"I am certain that we will sign a player in January. It will be a loan deal with the right to make it permanent."
Lopez, 27, has previously played for Barcelona and River Plate.
