Italian side Sampdoria have completed the loan signing of Maxi Lopez from Catania.

The 28-year-old spent the second half of last season with AC Milan, but the Serie A runners-up did not take up the option of a permanent move.

A club statement read: "Catania would like to announce that an agreement has been reached with Sampdoria for the loan transfer of Maximiliano Gaston Lopez, with the option to buy him outright. The transfer is dependent upon the completion of the medical exams."

Lopez scored just twice for Milan last season.
