Former Arsenal and Portsmouth striker Kanu has revealed that he is excited by the progress being made by Nigeria this year.
The Super Eagles qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations in emphatic fashion last weekend, beating Liberia 6-1 to progress by an 8-2 aggregate scoreline.
Nigeria manager Stephen Keshi has a number of Premier League players in his developing squad, including Chelsea duo John Obi Mikel and Victor Moses.
Kanu was an invited guest at the Liberia match and thinks that the performance can be the catalyst for an upturn in fortunes for the African giants.
He told reporters: "It is an honour to witness this match.
"It was an emphatic win and I will advise all those that made the ticket to the Nations Cup not to relax until the Eagles make a meaningful impact at the tournament, and also grab a World Cup slot too."
Nigeria are among the leading pre-tournament favourites for January's continental showdown in South Africa.
