Auxerre helped their cause for Ligue 1 survival with a convincing 4-0 win over fellow strugglers Brest this afternoon.
It didn't take long for the hosts to open the scoring as Edouard Cisse netted after just five minutes following fine work from Alain Traore.
Former Birmingham City player Olivier Kapo doubled their advantage on 18 minutes before Traore added his own name to the scoresheet shortly after to give Auxerre a 3-0 lead inside half an hour.
Things got even better for Ligue 1's bottom club before the half was over as Roy Contout added a fourth with a composed finish.
The goals dried up in the second period as Brest attempted to find away back into the game, but the damage had been done in the first half.
Despite the result, Auxerre remain bottom but have moved within three points of safety while Brest drop to 19th with four games left to play.
