Ajax left it late to secure a 1-0 win against SBV Excelsior in this afternoon's Eredivisie clash at the Amsterdam ArenA.
The first half proved a tame affair in which neither side was able to muster a shot on goal.
After the restart, right-back Daan Bovenberg struck a dangerous chance for Excelsior following a corner, but a combination Jasper Cillessen and Davy Klaassen were able to keep the ball out.
Ajax nearly opened the scoring midway through the second half courtesy of Nick Viergever, but Alessandro Damen pulled off a smart save to keep his side in the game.
With just seven minutes left, however, Daley Sinkgraven and Richairo Zivkovic linked up to supply Anwar El-Ghazi, who duly nodded home to give Ajax the win.
Ajax remain second in the Eredivisie table, while Excelsior are in 13th place.
