Albion Rovers have suffered another setback in their push for promotion after they were beaten by East Fife.
Rovers were looking to bounce back after a shock defeat away to Elgin City, but nearly fell behind early on when Allan Walker's effort was tipped away by Neil Parry.
The hosts took the lead midway through the first half when Marc McKenzie's effort proved too much for Fifers keeper Allan Fleming.
East Fife got back on level terms soon after the restart through Kevin Smith, who had been denied by Parry before half time.
Rovers' luck then worsened 10 minutes from time as Nathan Austin scored to stun the majority inside Cliftonhill.
The home side thought they had earned a point through John Gemmell's 83rd-minute penalty, but East Fife sealed a dramatic victory thanks to Smith's second of the game, with five minutes remaining.
Albion second defeat in a week means that Arbroath retain top spot in the table and have a game in hand.
