Gareth Bale slams Andorra pitch

Wales attacker Gareth Bale criticises the Andorra pitch after his side scraped past the minnows in their opening Euro 2016 qualifier this evening.

Wales attacker Gareth Bale has criticised the pitch that his side were forced to play on during this evening's Euro 2016 qualifier against Andorra.

Much of the pre-match build-up centred around Andorra's 3G surface, and Wales struggled to adapt to it as they were forced to come from behind to claim a narrow 2-1 victory over the minnows.

Bale, who scored both goals for his side, was keen to point out that the conditions were tough underfoot, but was pleased to have picked up three "important" points in their first Group B outing.

"I can't describe how bad, bobbly and hard the pitch was to deal with. We said at the start that the most important thing was to get three points," the Real Madrid man told Sky Sports News.

"Other teams are going to find it difficult coming here so for us to get three points is important. We want to qualify and you have to come to places like this and get victories."

Andorra's opener saw them score their first goal in a competitive match for 1,463 days and also take the lead in a European Championship qualifier for the first time in their history.
