Dimitar Berbatov claims that AS Monaco were fully deserving of their 3-1 win over Arsenal in the Champions League on Wednesday evening.

AS Monaco striker Dimitar Berbatov has claimed that his side were well worth their surprise 3-1 win against Arsenal in the Champions League on Wednesday evening.

The Ligue 1 side stunned the Gunners at the Emirates to put themselves in a commanding position ahead of the second leg, and the Bulgarian, who netted the second goal, felt that the visitors were deserving winners in North London.

He told Sky Sports News: "We are confident in our ability so honestly we deserved to win. We scored our chances and in the end it's a great win for us. It's not over, we have one more game in Monaco and Arsenal are a great team."

The former Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur forward also stated that his side had a greater desire than their hosts and hinted that Arsenal took them lightly.

"We are good and Arsenal is a good team, but today probably we wanted the win more than them," he added. "We fought all over the pitch, won our challenges and scored the goals.

"In a team like Arsenal I don't think they can allow themselves to underestimate our team today but if they did then it's up to them."

The two teams play the return leg on March 17.
