Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud has thanked the Montpellier HSC fans for his warm reception prior to his side's win in the Champions League.
The 25-year-old moved from the Ligue 1 champions to the Gunners for £13m during the summer after spending two breakthrough seasons with La Paillade.
The France international was granted a quick return to the Stade de la Mosson as his current club recorded a 2-1 victory against Montpellier, and Giroud has thanked his former fans for welcoming him back with a positive reception.
"I tried to stay really focused before the game. I did not go out, I wanted to keep my mind on the pitch and I did it pretty well," said Giroud.
"Tonight we got the victory and I was really glad about the way the fans cheered for me.
"Look, I didn't score the goal which would have helped me and definitely kick-started my season, but I was decisive by giving an assist to Lukas [Podolski]."
Giroud is still looking for his first Arsenal goal.
