Danny Welbeck has declared himself "delighted" after netting his first professional hat-trick in first-team football tonight.
The 23-year-old forward scored three goals in Arsenal's 4-1 rout of Galatasaray this evening, as the Gunners picked up their first points of the 2014-15 Champions League campaign.
Welbeck told Sky Sports News after the game that the hat-trick is a sign of the faith that has been shown in him by Arsene Wenger.
He said: "I'm delighted to get goal, but the most important thing is to get three points after the first game.
"United reserves was probably the last time I got a hat-trick. I've been working on scoring more goals and tonight it paid off.
"The manager's shown a lot of faith in me and I'm pleased to pay him back. I'm upfront, in the position I want to be in."
Tonight's game marked Wenger's 18th anniversary in charge of the Gunners, having arrived from Japanese side Nagoya Grampus Eight on October 1, 1996.
