Under-fire Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger looking for acknowledgement

Arsene Wenger calls on Arsenal fans to acknowledge the "real achievement" of sealing the Gunners' place in the last 16 of the Champions League for a 15th straight year.

Arsene Wenger has urged Arsenal supporters to cut him some slack after guiding the Gunners into the last 16 of the Champions League for the 15th successive season.

The under-fire Gunners boss was subjected to a verbal assault from fans as he boarded a train back to London following Saturday's 3-2 defeat at Stoke City, where they trailed 3-0 at the break.

However, the North Londoners bounced back by thumping Galatasaray 4-1 in Istanbul last night to finish second in Group D.

Wenger, who arrived at the club in 1996, has helped Arsenal qualify for the second round of the competition every year since 1999, and the Frenchman says that it is a "real achievement".

"It is my 15th successive time in the round of 16. I think that's a real achievement," he told UEFA.com.

"Let's focus on the Premier League and the FA Cup now. We'll see where we are at the end of February."

Aaron Ramsey struck twice to add to Lukas Podolski's early opener against the Turkish giants, before the latter capped the win late on after Wesley Sneijder bagged a consolation.
