Arsene Wenger has insisted that he is happy with Arsenal's response against Schalke despite watching his side settle for a draw in Germany.
The Gunners raced into a two-goal lead thanks to strikes from Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud before being pegged back by Schalke in the second half.
Wenger believes that his side showed character to perform in the early stages following last weekend's disappointing performance at Old Trafford.
He told Sky Sports News: "It was a close game with both sides playing very well.
"Overall I feel after the stick we got from Saturday's game it was important to show a great response and that is exactly what we did.
"We played against a good team and it we were a bit unfortunate to concede before half time. We had a chance with Walcott at the end but overall I feel 2-2 is fair."
Arsenal stay in second in Group B but are now just a point ahead of Olympiakos in third place following their win against Montpellier.
