Whether or not Pochettino will feel able to thrust the 23-year-old straight into the starting lineup for such an important game, however, is a different matter.

Argentina international Juan Foyth looked a strong contender to start the season at right-back before an ankle injury picked up against Bayern Munich in pre-season ruled him out. The 21-year-old won't return until late September at the earliest.

Twenty-two-year-old full-back Kyle Walker-Peters will be cursing his luck after picking up a hamstring injury last week against Newcastle, having finally seemingly secured a starting spot at right-back for his boyhood team. The England youth international is very unlikely to feature against Newcastle.
