Arsenal team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Chelsea

:Headline: Arsenal team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Chelsea:
Sports Mole rounds up all of Arsenal's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Friday's Premier League opener with Brentford.
Sports Mole

Arsenal return to action on August 22 when they square off against London rivals Chelsea in the Premier League.

Mikel Arteta had expected to make a positive start to the new campaign, only for his Gunners squad to under-perform during a 2-0 defeat at newly-promoted Brentford.

With over a week to prepare for their next fixture, Arteta will hope that more time on the training ground can help the club avoid successive defeats to teams from the capital.

Here, Sports Mole takes a look at Arsenal's injury and suspension news ahead of welcoming the European champions to the Emirates Stadium.

Thomas Partey

Status: Out
Type of injury: Ankle
Possible return date: September 11 (vs. Norwich City)

The injury-hit Thomas Partey re-entered the Arsenal treatment room with an ankle injury sustained in their pre-season defeat to Chelsea. The former Atletico Madrid man is set to spend the rest of August recovering from the issue, meaning that he will miss crunch clashes with Chelsea and Manchester City.

Eddie Nketiah

Status: Out
Type of injury: Ankle
Possible return date: September 11 (vs. Norwich City)

Like Partey, Eddie Nketiah - who could still leave during the current transfer window - also injured his ankle during the Mind Series clash with the Blues and will be keeping his teammate company in the medical room for the next few weeks.

Gabriel Magalhaes

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: September 11 (vs. Norwich City)

Gabriel Magalhaes sustained a knee injury over the summer and was forced to withdraw from Brazil's gold medal-winning Olympic team. The 23-year-old is recovering at Arsenal's base and will return to training in early September, according to the Gunners' latest medical update.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Illness
Possible return date: August 22 (vs. Chelsea)

After they both missed the game with Brentford, Arsenal confirmed that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette had tested positive for coronavirus. As of Friday morning, neither player had been able to return to training, making an appearance against Chelsea highly unlikely.

Alexandre Lacazette

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Illness
Possible return date: August 22 (vs. Chelsea)

See above regarding Aubameyang. Arteta revealed on Friday that both players had suffered symptoms of coronavirus after recording a positive test.

Willian

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Illness
Possible return date: August 22 (vs. Chelsea)

Willian is another senior player who finds himself in the same situation as Aubameyang and Lacazette.

Runar Alex Runarsson

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Illness
Possible return date: August 22 (vs. Chelsea)

Backup goalkeeper Runarsson was the fourth player named as having tested positive positive for coronavirus last week.

ARSENAL'S SUSPENSION LIST

Arsenal have no players suspended for the upcoming London derby.
