Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger: 'Fixture list to blame for injuries

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says that the thought of losing more players to injury 'is worrying' after seeing Olivier Giroud pull up against West Ham United.

Arsene Wenger has admitted that he will have to analyse Arsenal's "demanding" schedule after losing a couple of players to injury against West Ham United.

The 68-year-old expects to be without back-up striker Olivier Giroud for around three weeks, while midfielder Francis Coquelin also hobbled off on Tuesday night with a suspected groin problem.

Wenger made a full 11 changes to his starting lineup for the quarter-final tie, coming just three days before a crunch clash with Liverpool - the first of 10 games in the space of 36 days.

Speaking after the match, the Frenchman told reporters: "It is very demanding, especially because we already have a tough schedule behind us.

"We have to sit down and analyse very well what we can do. What is very worrying in my job is when you start to lose players, like Giroud tonight.

"After, you cannot afford to lose another one. I have to look how I can manage the schedule. When you look at our fixtures in January and February, you cannot imagine we will always play with the same players in every game.

"Will I change from Premier League game to Premier League or only in the Carabao Cup? I don't know yet – I have to look at the fixtures to see what I do."

Danny Welbeck scored the only goal of the game to help Arsenal past West Ham and into the semi-finals.
