Arsene Wenger: 'Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will be sharper'

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says that forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will be sharper for the EFL Cup final on Sunday, having not featured for the Gunners in two weeks.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has said that forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will be sharper for the EFL Cup final on Sunday, having not featured for the Gunners in two weeks.

Arsenal's last two fixtures have seen them progress into the Europa League last-16 with an aggregate victory over Ostersunds, and the North London club were not involved in last weekend's FA Cup action.

Aubameyang, who was cup-tied in European competition after appearing for Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League, has had time to "build up" ahead of Sunday's Wembley showdown.

"He has only played twice but on the other hand when he came here he had not played for a while," Wenger told Sky Sports News. "He was not at his best physically and we took advantage of the last two weeks to build him up physically.

"I think he will be much sharper than he was. You could see day after day that he is much sharper than he was two or three weeks ago. Our target on Sunday will be to find him two or three times each half in dangerous positions because he is sharp now.

"The handicap is that we have not played a lot with him but his runs are so clever that I think we have players who can find him."

David Ospina will start in goal for the Gunners, while Mesut Ozil and Aaron Ramsey could feature in Wenger's midfield.
