Sports Mole runs the rule over Swansea City's victory over Arsenal in the Premier League.

Swansea City leapfrogged Arsenal in the Premier League this evening by scoring twice in quick succession to come back from a goal down and beat the Gunners.

After a scoreless first half, Arsenal broke the deadlock through in-form Alexis Sanchez, who swept home from close range after a swift counter-attack.

Their lead held for a little over 10 minutes before Gylfi Sigurdsson curled home an exquisite free kick and substitute Bafetimbi Gomis won the game with a header shortly after coming on.

Below, Sports Mole examines the 90 minutes at a rainy Liberty Stadium.

Was the result fair?

A draw probably would have been the right result on the balance of play, but you just felt that Swansea wanted it a little more. Arsenal will again feel ever so deflated after throwing away a lead for the second straight game.

Swansea's performance

It might be just their second win in eight Premier League games, but if they keep up this excellent home form then they will surely be in and around the top half come the end of the season. The Swans have now taken 13 out of a possible 18 points at home and this win will perhaps be the most satisfying of them all. Garry Monk will no doubt feel that his side deserved the points.

They pressed excellently in the early stages and should have had a first-half penalty when Calum Chambers barged into Wilfried Bony. The latter was a pain for Arsenal's defence for the 75 minutes that he was on the field, but it was his replacement, Gomis, who stole the show with his first Premier League goal. Sigurdsson scored just his second goal of the season and first since the opening day at Manchester United with a gorgeous free kick. A mention too for Jefferson Montero down the left wing. Chambers will not want to come up against him again soon.

Arsenal's performance

As mentioned above, it's another three points thrown away by the Gunners. After collapsing against Anderlecht in midweek, the Gunners would have been expected to hold out better, but once again they failed to see it through.

There was the odd neat moment in the first half, but it was at the start of the second half when Arsene Wenger's side looked brightest. A lot of their best play came from the right wing and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Sanchez was fairly quiet, but popped up for the goal and made no mistake from Danny Welbeck's precise cutback.

They might have plenty of attacking options, but they really are struggling in defence. Granted, there are injuries, but there is such a lack of depth and today the back four looked tired. Chambers, in particular, had a poor game, while Bony took advantage of the undersized stand-in centre-back Nacho Monreal and bullied the Spaniard on several occasions.

Sports Mole's man of the match

Jefferson Montero: The Ecuadorian terrorised Chambers down the left wing with his quick feet and pacey runs. It was one of these bursts of pace that opened up the space to cross and set up Gomis for the winner.

Biggest gaffe

No standout gaffes at the Liberty Stadium, so we're going to pick on Welbeck for side-footing a first-half opening straight at Lukasz Fabianski when he should have fired across goal from close range. Sorry Danny.

Referee performance

Phil Dowd didn't have his best game. He had a perfect view for Swansea's penalty shout in the first half and it was astonishing that he didn't point to the spot for Chambers's barge. It was the sort of foul that would have been given 10 times out of 10 in the middle of the park, but why isn't it a penalty too? Elsewhere, there were a couple of harsh bookings and in the end he dished out an unnecessary 10 yellow cards.

What next?

Swansea: Up next for the fifth-placed Swans is a trip to reigning champions Manchester City after the international break on Saturday, November 22.

Arsenal: The Gunners have two huge home games in five days when they return to action, first welcoming Manchester United in the league before hosting Borussia Dortmund in a vital Champions League clash.
