Arsenal have courted potential outrage by reportedly deciding to axe their popular Gunnersaurus mascot after 27 years.
Lifelong Gunners fan Jerry Quy has inhabited the costume of the giant green dinosaur since 1993 and is a firm fixture at the Emirates Stadium, as well as a favourite of the club's younger supporters.
According to The Sun, however, Gunnersaurus has now been deemed "surplus to requirements" as Arsenal look to cut costs in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
The club axed 55 full-time jobs in August to help balance the books and now Quy - a part-time worker in his late 60s - has also been shown the door.
Quy, who once missed his own brother's wedding in order to attend an Arsenal game, kept fans entertained during lockdown with a series of 'Gunnersaurus at home' videos on social media.
