Chris Coleman: 'Arsene Wenger comments a cheap shot'

Wales boss Chris Coleman says that he is unhappy with comments made by Arsene Wenger regarding his team selection.

Wales manager Chris Coleman has stated that he is unhappy with comments made by Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger regarding his team selection.

The Frenchman suggested that Gunners midfielder Aaron Ramsey and Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale picked up injuries because they featured in Wales's final Euro 2016 qualifier against Andorra last month, even though the team had already qualified for next summer's tournament in France.

Coleman has said that Wenger should have made an effort to contact him regarding Ramsey's condition.

"If Arsene Wenger had a problem with my selection then call me. This job is hard enough as it is without a cheap shot, which is exactly what it was," Coleman told BBC Sport. "He didn't have to comment on Gareth Bale. It has nothing to do with Arsenal.

"If I have no phone call from the manager and my medical team has not been contacted by that club then it's a green light to play him. There was no correspondence with Arsene Wenger.

"He called [England boss] Roy Hodgson to warn him about Theo Walcott but he didn't call me. All he had to do is say 'be careful' and that's what I would've done."

Ramsey has been sidelined with the hamstring injury that he suffered against Bayern Munich a week after playing against Andorra.
