Kenny Jackett: 'Benik Afobe can fire us to success'

Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Kenny Jackett says that Benik Afobe can fire the club into the Premier League ahead of his proposed move to Molineux from Arsenal.

Wolverhampton Wanderers head coach Kenny Jackett has expressed his belief that Benik Afobe can fire the club into the Premier League after they agreed a fee with Arsenal for the striker.

The 21-year-old has undergone a medical at Molineux after the two sides settled on a fee, believed to be in the region of £2m.

Afobe has enjoyed a successful loan spell with the MK Dons this season, and Jackett says that now is the time to test himself at a higher level.

"I watched him come through at Arsenal and watched his progress up to the current time and we feel, at 21, he fits into the bracket we are looking for that can improve us," Jackett told the Express & Star.

"He is on a good run, a very good run and has got over his injury problems. He has proved an asset for MK Dons, has a good goalscoring record in League One and he is ready now to step up to try the challenge of Championship football, which many of our players have done this year.

"He has the pace, power and goalscoring record that we need. He will help us in the second half of this season and the years to come."

Afobe scored 19 goals in 31 appearances for the Dons this term.
