Per Mertesacker has admitted that Arsenal will head into the new Premier League season on a real high following their Community Shield triumph.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain scored the only goal of the game to help the Gunners overcome Chelsea 1-0 at Wembley this afternoon.
Arsenal were without star forward Alexis Sanchez due to his recent Copa America exploits, but Mertesacker believes that the presence of summer signing Petr Cech will prove to be just as valuable.
"It's a start and it keeps our confidence high," he told BT Sport. "Petr Cech has so much experience and gives us a huge boost before the start of the season. We try our best and when Alexis Sanchez is back we have a good squad."
Arsenal's victory over Chelsea was their first in eight attempts, having failed to overcome their London rivals since 2011 prior to today.
