Arsenal's Theo Walcott: 'I want to repay Arsene Wenger with trophies'

Arsenal forward Theo Walcott insists that he is striving to win trophies for two reasons: personal ambition and as a reward for the faith shown by Arsene Wenger.

Arsenal forward Theo Walcott has declared that he is desperate to end his personal quest for trophies and wants to repay the faith shown in him by manager Arsene Wenger.

Walcott is still searching for his first major trophy success, with his arrival in North London coinciding with a silverware drought for the Gunners.

The 24-year-old believes that only a title challenge will suffice from his side this season, given the quality and ambition he feels is on show at the Emirates Stadium.

He told The Mirror: "We shouldn't be just challenging for a Champions League spot, we should be challenging for the title. With the squad we have, the players coming in, lots of clubs changing manager, who knows what will happen? We'll see.

"We showed last season than we can be consistent and our form table at the end was right at the top. That's why it can be quite frustrating. But we work on the positives because we have so much experience and great players in this team. I think we have a very strong squad. We have some great players and I always look forward to coming back to work.

"I want to repay the manager for the belief he has and the faith he shows when he brings in players at such a young age. He puts young players in there and just says: 'go and do your thing.' He's given me the chance to go from playing in the Championship to playing in the World Cup so he's been very good for me."

Walcott has revealed that he is targeting 25 goals in all competitions this season, with the aim to surpass his tally of 21 from the previous campaign.
