Burnley have succumbed to a 1-0 defeat against Arsenal in Sunday's Premier League clash at Turf Moor, courtesy of Laurent Koscielny's controversial injury-time strike.

The Gunners were bright from the off as they marauded into the opposition half, but Alex Iwobi's effort in the third minute was skied high above goal.

Moments later, Alexis Sanchez's seemingly goalbound strike took a deflection off Theo Walcott and drifted just wide of Burnley's right-hand upright.

The hosts soaked up the pressure and threatened on the quarter-hour mark when George Boyd struck wide of Petr Cech's near post, despite having three teammates in support.

Arsenal dominated possession but were not able to breach their opponents' defence as the half-time whistle saw both sides go in level at the break.

Sean Dyche's charges were quicker out of the starting blocks in the second half and Matt Lowton's cross in the 48th minute was nearly drilled home by Sam Vokes at the near post.

Two minutes later Arsenal came close to drawing first blood, but Burnley goalkeeper Tom Heaton managed to pull off a great save after Sanchez was played in by Hector Bellerin.

Frustration began creeping into the visiting players and they were nearly made to pay for their wasted chances when Johann Berg Gudmundsson's header on the hour had to be kept out by Cech's diving save.

Just when it seemed like Burnley could hang on to a precious point, they were cruelly denied deep into injury time when Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's connection following Mesut Ozil's corner appeared to bounce off Koscielny's elbow and into the net.

The result sees Burnley remain 14th in the Premier League table, while Arsene Wenger's charges climb to third, two points behind leaders Manchester City.
