Arsenal will be aiming to end their worst-ever losing run against a single opponent in their league history when they travel to Manchester City in the Premier League on Wednesday night.

The Gunners are top of the table heading into the gigantic contest, five points clear of second-placed Man City, but the reigning champions have two games in hand on the division leaders.

Arsenal have seen their title hopes take a hit this month, drawing three straight league games against Liverpool, West Ham United and Southampton, which has allowed Man City back into the race.

A victory for Mikel Arteta's side in Manchester would move them eight points clear at the summit, albeit with the Citizens still having two games in hand, but Pep Guardiola's team have eyes elsewhere due to their involvement in the FA Cup final and Champions League semi-finals.

Arsenal have not beaten Man City in England's top flight since December 2015, though, with the Citizens victorious in the last 11 league meetings between the two sides.

The North London's run of 11 straight defeats is their longest losing streak against any team in their league history, and they will be bidding to break that streak on Wednesday night.

Arsenal did record a 2-0 win over Man City in July 2020 in the semi-finals of the FA Cup, but as mentioned, the capital outfit's last league success was back in December 2015.

Meanwhile, the Gunners have not been victorious in Manchester in England's top flight since January 2015.

Man City ran out 3-1 winners when the two teams locked horns at the Emirates Stadium back in February, with Kevin De Bruyne, Jack Grealish and Erling Braut Haaland on the scoresheet for Guardiola's side.

The Citizens have also won all six of their home league fixtures against Arsenal under the management of Guardiola, boasting an aggregate score of 17-3.

Wednesday's fixture will actually be the third meeting between the two sides this season, with Man City also running out 1-0 winners in the FA Cup at the end of January.

Arsenal will enter the match off the back of a 3-3 draw with Southampton in the league last Friday, with Arteta's side coming from 3-1 behind to secure a point in the latter stages of the contest.

Man City, meanwhile, booked their spot in the final of the FA Cup with a 3-0 success over Sheffield United on Saturday afternoon.

The Citizens were last in Premier League action at home to Leicester City on April 15, recording a 3-1 victory over the relegation-threatened outfit.
