Arsenal's failure to secure a top-four place in the 2021-22 Premier League season was always expected to have implications on their summer transfer window, and there has been a lack of early activity in North London.

However, the Gunners have just announced their first signing of the summer, and progress is being made on offloading out-of-favour players to raise funds for their prime targets.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up the latest Arsenal transfer news, including updates on Marquinhos, Bernd Leno and Nuno Tavares.

Marquinhos deal confirmed

Arsenal's first acquisition of the current transfer window was confirmed on Monday afternoon, as the Gunners welcomed 19-year-old Brazilian attacker Marquinhos to the club from Sao Paulo.

Marquinhos has penned a "long-term" deal at the Emirates Stadium - believed to be four years with an option for an additional 12 months - and he will soon link up with Mikel Arteta's squad for pre-season.

Technical director Edu has earmarked Marquinhos as one for the future, which could therefore see the teenager continue his development with the Under-23s or sent out on loan in 2022-23.

Marquinhos scored four goals and provided three assists in 41 senior appearances for Sao Paulo and also represented Brazil's Under-16 and Under-17 sides, but Wolverhampton Wanderers are allegedly seeking legal advice after reaching a pre-contract agreement with the attacker before his £3m move to the Emirates.

Marseille make contact over Nuno Tavares

To say that Nuno Tavares endured a mixed bag of fortunes during his maiden Arsenal campaign would be an understatement, as the left-back showed flashes of attacking quality and produced error-strewn defensive performances in equal measure.

Kieran Tierney's ongoing injury woes allowed Tavares to stake his claim in the first team, but he largely failed to convince on the left-hand side, and a loan move elsewhere for 2022-23 is thought to be on the cards.

According to The Sun, Arsenal and Marseille have been in dialogue over the possibility of sending the Portugal Under-21 international to the Orange Velodrome for the 2022-23 season.

The French club have acquired a number of Gunners players in recent months, namely William Saliba and Matteo Guendouzi, the latter of whom is set to join on a permanent deal as Saliba returns from his loan spell.

Sead Kolasinac also joined Marseille when his Arsenal contract was terminated in January, and Tavares ended the 2021-22 season with one goal and two assists in 28 appearances across all competitions.

Bernd Leno on Fulham's radar

Bernd Leno was Arsenal's undisputed number one under Mikel Arteta for one-and-a-half years, but the arrival of Aaron Ramsdale often saw the 30-year-old consigned to the substitutes bench.

Leno only made eight appearances in total for the Gunners last term - four of which came in the Premier League - and he is widely expected to leave ahead of Matt Turner's arrival from the New England Revolution.

A return to Germany has been mooted for Leno, but the goalkeeper's agent Joannis Koukoutrigas has now revealed that Fulham are pushing hard to sign him as he aims to remain in London.

"Fulham is trying hard to get Bernd. Very professionally. This is also true for some other clubs and shows his status. But as I said, for me he is the number one at Arsenal and we are therefore also relaxed," Koukoutrigas told Bild.

Leno has 37 clean sheets to boast from 125 matches in Arsenal colours, and he is about to enter the final 12 months of his contract with the North London club.
