Arsenal have reportedly reached an agreement to sign Bologna defender Takehiro Tomiyasu on deadline day.

The Japanese international was thought to have been on the brink of a move to Tottenham Hotspur last month, though negotiations stalled while the 22-year-old was away with his national side at the 2020 Olympics.

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Gunners have now stepped in to sign Tomiyasu and have agreed to pay Bologna £17.2m plus £2.5m in add-ons.

Personal terms have also been agreed between Arsenal and the player, who is expected to undergo a medical within the next few hours before completing the transfer.

Tomiyasu is believed to be keen on a move to the Premier League and was happy to join either Spurs or Arsenal this summer, with the latter set to win the race for his signature.

The defender has made 64 appearances for Bologna since joining the Serie A club in 2019, scoring three goals and providing three assists.
