Arsenal manger Arsene Wenger has revealed that the signing of Joel Campbell is a “gamble” after the club agreed terms with Deportivo Saprissa for the frontman.
The 19-year-old, who featured in the Under-20s World Cup for Costa Rica, could be the Gunners' fourth summer signing after clinching Carl Jenkinson, Gervinho and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
"Joel is a young prospect, he has talent and he can play right, left or centrally," Wenger told the club’s Matchday Programme. "We took a gamble on him but, from what we have seen, it is worth taking.
"Sometimes you feel the reputation of the player is punished by the fact he did not have a massive transfer fee. You would like people to look just at the quality of the players and feel if they are Arsenal players or not."
The London side go head to head with Liverpool at the Emirates on Saturday (August 20).
