Arsenal and Chelsea have reportedly been quoted £68.5m for the signing of Sporting Lisbon's Viktor Gyokeres.

The 25-year-old secured a switch from Championship side Coventry City to the Portuguese giants in July 2023 and has enjoyed a productive 2023-24 term so far.

Gyokeres has found the net on 22 occasions in 25 Primeira Liga appearances and has bagged 37 goals in 50 games across club and international matches this season.

The striker's form has helped Lisbon to the top of the league standings, with Ruben Amorim's men currently one point ahead of second-placed Benfica.

Sporting are also targeting cup glory, facing Roger Schmidt's Benfica in the second leg of their Taca de Portugal semi-final on Tuesday night.

Premier League interest

According to The Mirror, Sporting Lisbon are preparing for the sale of Gyokeres during the upcoming summer transfer window following his sensational form to date at Estadio Jose Alvalade.

After signing the Swede on a high-profile deal from Mark Robins's Sky Blues for £20m last July, the report claims that Sporting are aiming to make a significant profit on the striker.

It is understood that the Primeira Liga pacesetters are hoping to pocket £68.5m from the sale of Gyokeres, who is attracting interest from Premier League clubs.

With the likes of Nicolas Jackson struggling to win over some supporters, Chelsea are keen on boosting their striking department with the arrival of the ex-Coventry marksman.

Arsenal are monitoring the progress of Gyokeres, with Mikel Arteta looking to compliment his current options of Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Jesus at the focal point of attack.

AC Milan are also said to be interested in a move for the 25-year-old, however the forward is supposedly favouring a return to England at this stage.

Seaside struggles

With a number of the Premier League's biggest clubs now keeping tabs on Gyokeres, it is easy to forget that the Swede struggled to make an impression during his maiden loan stint in the English game.

Looking for first-team minutes, the striker joined second-tier outfit Swansea City at the beginning of the 2020-21 campaign, although his stay in South Wales was cut short.

Gyokeres managed only 11 Championship appearances for the Swans and failed to find the back of the net, departing the Liberty Stadium with little fuss from the Jack Army.

Fast-forward three years and the ex-Swansea loanee is one of the hottest properties in the European transfer market as the 2023-24 term draws to a close. body check tags ::
