Liverpool and Arsenal are reportedly prepared to battle for the services of Villarreal goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen this summer.
After breaking into the first-team fold in 2020, the 21-year-old has cemented his spot as the first-choice stopper for the Yellow Submarine this season.
Jorgensen has started 30 La Liga fixtures for Villarreal, keeping four clean sheets along the way as Marcelino Garcia's men endure a campaign of mid-table mediocrity, currently occupying ninth position in the top-flight standings.
The keeper also possesses relative international pedigree, having earned six caps for Denmark Under-21s since his debut at that level in August 2021.
He is yet to break into Kasper Hjulmand's plans at senior level, though, with the likes of Leicester City's Mads Hermansen above the Villarreal man in the pecking order.
Liverpool join Arsenal in Jorgensen pursuit?
According to Caught Offside, Villarreal's Jorgensen is attracting interest from a pair of Premier League title challengers ahead of the summer window.
The report claims that both Mikel Arteta's Arsenal and Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool are keen on securing the signature of the Dane before the 2024-25 term.
With Jorgensen's contract at Estadio de la Ceramica expiring at the conclusion of the 2026-27 campaign, the Yellow Submarine are in good position to drive a hard bargain for their first-choice keeper.
In terms of ready-made replacements should the 21-year-old depart this summer, veteran stopper Pepe Reina is currently playing second fiddle for the one-time Europa League winners.
However, ex-Liverpool man Reina has only made one La Liga appearance this season as Villarreal look to become less dependent on a player who will turn 42 years old in late August.
Arsenal's goalkeeping situation
It is understood that Arsenal are hoping to bring Jorgensen to the Emirates in order to play understudy to Spaniard David Raya during the 2024-25 campaign.
Raya is currently on loan from fellow Premier League side Brentford, but the North Londoners have the option to purchase the keeper for £27m at the end of the season.
Developments surrounding Arsenal's interest in Jorgensen has thrown Aaron Ramsdale's future at the Gunners into further doubt, with the England international losing his place in between the sticks this term.
The 25-year-old will be seeking out regular first-team action in the new season, and it has been reported that Newcastle United are monitoring the player's situation. body check tags ::
