Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz has reportedly emerged as a potential transfer target for Arsenal.

The 23-year-old has impressed since leaving Manchester City for Villa in July 2019, making a total of 93 appearances in all competitions.

However, despite having less than 18 months remaining on his contract, manager Steven Gerrard has suggested that discussions regarding fresh terms are yet to commence.

According to the Evening Standard, Arsenal may now look to take advantage as they bid to sign a new central midfielder before the end of January.

The Gunners are seemingly set to miss out on Lyon's Bruno Guimaraes, who appears likely to complete a transfer to Newcastle United over the coming days.

Like Guimaraes, Luiz is a Brazil international, something which is expected to result in Villa demanding in excess of £30m.
