Arsenal are reportedly prepared to meet the £31m release clause of Roma defender Kostas Manolas.
The Gunners finished in fifth position in the Premier League standings this season, and manager Unai Emery is keen to improve his backline ahead of the next campaign.
However, Emery could find himself with a restricted transfer budget, something which may limit the changes in personnel at the Emirates Stadium.
According to Il Messaggero, Arsenal are ready to make an official bid to try to tempt Manolas into a switch to the Premier League.
The Greece international has been linked with a number of top European clubs, and it has previously been suggested that Juventus lead the race for the 27-year-old's signature.
Manolas has made 35 starts for Roma in all competitions this season.
