Arsenal have been knocked back in their pursuit of Juventus defender Medhi Benatia after tabling a £35m bid, according to a report.
The Morocco international recently emerged as the Gunners' rumoured top target, as they seek central defensive cover for the second half of the campaign.
Italian outlet Calciomercato suggests that Arsenal have now made a move for Benatia, only for their opening bid to be knocked back by Serie A champions Juve.
Arsenal, previously linked with fellow Juventus star Daniele Rugani, are now considering whether to return with another offer or instead turn their attention elsewhere.
Benatia, formerly of Roma and Bayern Munich, has featured 13 times in the Italian top flight and Champions League this term.
